Mulder goal leads Bulldogs to 1-1 tie with Hawks

SANDPOINT — One thing is certain about the Lakeland and Sandpoint boys soccer teams: They’re about as even as it gets, and Wednesday’s 4A Inland Empire League showdown at Pine St. Field once again proved it.

For the second time in as many meetings, the Bulldogs (9-2-2, 1-0-2) and Hawks (9-2-3, 1-0-2 4A IEL) played to a tie, following a 4-4 opener with a far more defensive-minded 1-1 battle on Wendesday.

Dawson Mulder chipped in his eighth goal of the season on a nice feed from Tyler Moore in the fourth minute, staking the Bulldogs to an early 1-0 lead in a match that both teams knew could determine who hosts districts.

Lakeland got the equalizer in the final minutes of the first half, when Joho Reiman blasted in a shot off a pass from Dade McDermitt. Sandpoint thought there was a handball right before the kick, and complaining about it to the ref drew a red card, which forced the Bulldogs to play a man down for the whole second half.
