SANDPOINT — It remains unclear if a Bonner County couple accused of withholding their income taxes complied with a Sept. 25 deadline.

The Idaho State Tax Commission obtained in August a writ of mandate in 1st District Court requiring Mark and Patricia Perlinger to pay their taxes. The tax commission said the couple declined to file taxes from 2011-2013, during which time their combined income totaled more than $173,000.

Tax commission spokeswoman Renee Eymann said the commission is prevented from disclosing whether somebody has filed their taxes.

"We can't technically say whether anyone did or did not file a tax return even if we've done a writ of mandate because it's still covered under our confidentiality statute," Eymann said.
