Jensen boots Thunder past Oaks Academy
SANDPOINT — The Kootenai Thunder soccer team took on Oaks Academy in Spokane Valley recently in Mountain Christian League action, with the Thunder notching a 6-4 win.
Shayne Jensen did a hat trick one better, netting four goals and an assist to lead the Thunder, which also got goals from Shepley Osman and Mike Favor. Goalie Curtis Roop was busy, stopping 13 shots to preserve the win.
The Thunder followed that match with a 2-1 home loss th Christian Heritage. Jensen scored the lone goal, assisted by Shepley Osman, and Roop and Osman each made saves in goal.
Lastly, the Thunder trekked south to Pullman Christian school to earn a 3-3 draw. Favor scored two goals and Jensen knocked in a header in the final minute to earn the result. Peter Soderberg and Ben Bristow picked up assists, and Roop tallied nine saves. Currently the Thunder is in third place in the Mountain Christian League.
The Thunder volleyball team has also been busy, winning twice and falling once in recent action. The fell 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 25-17 to Oaks Academy, before notching a 25-14, 25-22, 25-20 sweep of Christian Heritage, and another 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 sweep of Pullman to end the week.
The Thunder girls are currently sitting in second place in the MCL standings.
Kootenai Thunder Sports Inc., established in 2008, is a program where children in grades 5-12 have the opportunity to play in organized sports together with Christian schools in the Inland Northwest. They are mostly homeschooled kids, but do have some public- and private-schooled kids who participate. Their goal is to foster good sportsmanship and Christlike character while enjoying healthy competition and a common love of sports. They are members of the Mountain Christian League and currently offer varsity soccer for boys, JV and varsity volleyball for girls, and JV and varsity basketball for boys and girls.
