Busch, Suppiger team up for game winning goal

| September 9, 2015 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Unable to muster much offense in the first half, Sandpoint came out with much more energy in the second, and it finally paid off in the 67th minute when Caroline Suppiger scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Lakeland Tuesday night in a 4A Inland Empire League showdown at War Memorial Field.

The goal came after Ashly Busch made a strong run down the right side, kept the ball in play, then sent a nice cross in front of the goal for Suppiger, who slotted her third tally of the season for the Bulldogs (2-1-1), who earned an early leg up in the battle to host districts.

“Ashly was able to drop past the defense and found Caroline,” described Bulldogs head coach Conor Baranski of the goal. “I appreciated our reaction after halftime. Our second half was miles ahead of our first half, which was about as poor as we’ve played.”
