RATHDRUM — The Bulldogs scored two goals in the first five minutes, and two goals in the last five, earning a 4-4 tie against the Hawks in 4A Inland Empire League boys soccer action Tuesday at Lakeland High School.

Amos Crossingham and Dawson Mulder scored goals to stake the Bulldogs (5-1-1, 0-0-1 4A IEL) to a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the game, which was just getting started as far as drama.

“Both teams came to play, it was a wild one,” said Bulldogs head coach Adam Tajan. “We came out firing in the first five minutes with two beautiful goals.”

Cody Callahan scored two goals to rally the Hawks (2-2-2, 0-0-1 4A IEL) back from an early deficit, as the Hawks reeled off four straight goals to take a 4-2 lead late in the game.

“The game started off with a couple of small defensive breakdowns,” Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said. “Sandpoint is always a good team and we were finally able to slow things down and move the ball around. We carried it to the second half and got some quick goals, but just weren’t able to keep that. It’s something we’ll work on for the next time we play them. It should be a fun game.”

Mulder would score his second goal of the game, and team-high sixth of the season, to cut the lead to one, before C.J. Crane scored the final equalizer in the last minute, earning a tie.

“We kind of let our foot off the gas, and they came out firing in the second half and we weren’t ready,” said Tajan of the Hawks. “The guys showed a lot of heart, and they’re going to battle to the end.”
