Wampus Cats fall to Spartans in four sets
PRIEST RIVER — Playing up in classification for a second straight match, the Clark Fork volleyball team had some strong moments, but ultimately fell 25-20, 25-16, 16-25, 25-23 in nonleague volleyball Wednesday night at Priest River High School.
Nona Young ran the offense with 15 set assists and two aces, Leslie Kiebert added five kills and seven digs, Allison Warner five kills and Sarah Holderman two blocks for the Wampus Cats, who got a chance to cut their teeth against some bigger teams. The Cats were able to take a set off of both Priest River and Bonners Ferry, which is no small task.
“We played pretty well against a team that’s two divisions up from you, and that gets in the kids heads a little bit,” said Cats head coach Cindy Derr. “We’re serving strong. Priest River picked up everything but the serves were solid. We have some young kids, and we’re getting them to understand the concepts of the game.”
Clark Fork hosts Mullan tonight in a North Star League opener. The JV match starts at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity action at 7:30 p.m.
