SANDPOINT — Boats and absorbent booms will be deployed on the Pend Oreille River Tuesday and Wednesday to help first responders be prepared for a hazardous material spill on the river.

"It's really training for the worst-case scenario," said Ron Lane, regional director of public affairs for BNSF Railway.

Bonner County Emergency Management and BNSF Railway are holding the exercise between Sandpoint City Beach and Dover.

Lane said that the local fire departments, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, and Homeland Security may also be involved.
