Greentree Naturals teaches small-acreage farming

SANDPOINT — If two acres sounds like too little space to get much farming done, consider this: The farm at Greentree Naturals manages to turn out mountains of organic food while doubling as a hands-on classroom for others whose acreage is limited, but whose interest is not.
In her own words, Diane Green is “growing farmers.”
Now celebrating its 25th year in business, Greentree Naturals has been certified organic since 1992. Along with her husband, Thom Sadoski, Green was one of the first growers in the area to reach out to local restaurants and offer farm-to-table fare as a viable option. She also was instrumental in getting the Sandpoint Farmers Market off the ground, serving as its president for three terms in the early days.
As of this season, approximately one-third of the food vendors at the market are students of Green’s, many having studied the art of organic farming on her land.
