NAPLES — A Boundary County man has died as a result of his injuries after a Friday afternoon car accident.

Daniel J. Duke, 29, of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., was northbound on Highway 95 when his 1998 Plymouth Voyager entered the southbound lane, where it struck a 1974 Ford 250 driven by John J. Hannigan, 72, of Naple. Hannigan was ejected from his vehicle. Hannigan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash while Duke was, according to an Idaho State Police news release.

Both Duke and Hannigan were transported by air to Kootenai Health, where Hannigan succumbed to his injuries. Duke was then transported by air from Kootenai Health to Harborview in Seattle.

The accident, which happened about 2:20 p.m. near McArthur Lake in Boundary County, blocked both lanes of travel for four hours.

An investigation is continuing.
