| April 4, 2016 10:12 PM

Organizers at a Spokane gallery are calling for area artists and photographers to submit paintings and photographs for an upcoming juried show.

Carol Schmauder and Ladd Bjorneby of Avenue West Gallery are planning a juried exhibit to be held Aug. 1 through 31, 2016. The gallery committee is offering cash prizes for the top entries in each of two categories: painting, which includes oil, watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media, and photography, both film and digital. The entry deadline is May 20, 2016.

Karen Kaiser, assistant curator for art education at the Jundt Art Museum, Gonzaga University, will adjudicate. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Fort Wright College in Spokane and her Master of Fine Arts in drawing and printmaking from Washington State University. She has worked in the visual arts for over 30 years, teaching, doing studio work, exhibiting and in arts administration.

Prizes include $300 for first place in each of the two categories. There will be four awards of $25 for honorable mention. Work must be the original creation and composition of the artist submitting it. Artwork must have been created within the last five years. Entries cost $10 each and are limited to five per participant. Work is submitted digitally on CD or through Dropbox.
