Bulldog doubles teams hold their own at Mead

SPOKANE — Khloe Kylonnen and Cassidy Story teamed up at No. 1 doubles to lead a girls doubles sweep on Tuesday, as Sandpoint traveled to face Greater Spokane League power Mead on Tuesday in a spring break dual in Spokane.

Violet Plummer and Caroline Supper won in straight sets at No. 2, and Allura Livingston and Alana Siefert never dropped a game at No. 3 doubles, as the Bulldog girls lost 8-3.

“Khloe and Cassidy were too much for their opponents. Great net domination combined with consistent, strong serves,” said Bulldogs head coach Kent Anderson. “Soccer buddies Vi and Caroline both lost close singles matches and returned to play almost flawless doubles.”

The boys team lost 7-2, as Washington doesn't have mixed doubles. Mead swept all the singles matches, with several JV players getting their first varsity action for Sandpoint.

Koen Connor and Tyler Newton won at No. 4 doubles, and Mitch Rust and True Sullivan at No. 5 doubles for the Bulldogs' lone wins. Declan Plummer and Michael Favor lost 10-8 super tie-breakers in singles, and Logan Temple and Reilly Wolfe lost 10-8 in doubles as the boys came very close to winning the dual.

“Speed and Intensity was the difference in their win,” said Anderson of Connor and Newton, two athletes with a big upside.

“Mitch and True had never played a full match before they won in a long three-set tie-breaker. Initiation by fire.”

Sandpoint hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.
