Bulldog tennis team throttles Trojans 10-2

| April 13, 2016 10:08 PM

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint girls swept both the singles and doubles action, propelling the Bulldogs to a convincing 10-2 win over 5A Post Falls in a nonleague tennis dual on Tuesday at Travers Park.

Jacob Jackson never dropped a game in a straight set win at No. 1 singles, playing sharp in his first shot at the top spot for the Bulldogs.

“Jacob absolutely shocked his opponent, winning before anyone knew what happened,” praised Bulldogs head coach Kent Anderson. “He's been playing great with speed, strong serves and a powerful forehand.”

Allura Livingston and Liz Parsley came from behind to notch an 8-6 win in a pro set at No. 2 girls doubles, as all but No. 1 boys singles were pro sets.

“They started the match rushing the points a little too much. When they decided to be more patient and use their power at the right times, they dominated,” described Anderson. “Liz's net game combined well with Allura's consistently strong ground strokes.”

Jake Aguirre and Reilly Wolfe teamed up for the first time at No. 2 boys doubles, and Anderson believes he may have stumbled upon a strong team moving forward.

“They both have high level first serves and, when they are going in, there is not much their opponents can do. And they were going in,” said Anderson. “Jake's attacking style was almost overwhelming.”

Sandpoint is at the Post Falls tournament on Friday.
