Encourage congressmen to support Scotchman Peak

| April 14, 2016 1:00 AM

It is seldom that an elected official has the opportunity to make a decision, followed by a profound action, leaving an incredible legacy in perpetuity for generations to come. This is a moment where leadership and vision for Idaho is greatly needed and greatly respected!

The safeguarding of the Scotchman Peak is vital to the preservation of the most grandeur collection of natural beauty in North Idaho. The peak itself, boasting a majestic elevation of 7,009 feet, provides opportunity for nature enthusiasts, educators and scientists, as well as outfitters and support businesses that encourage visitation without disturbing the cycle of life and the delicate balance of nature. It is in appreciation of our state's unique beauty that I am asking our elected officials to lead in the legislation to protect this unusually beautiful wilderness and preserve it for generations to come.

There are many local groups who have indicated that they support the wilderness designation for the Idaho portion of the Scotchman Peak. The Bonner County Sommissioners, the Idaho Forest Group, other local government entities as well as our local Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce, just to name a few, have all indicated that they support this endeavor.

These approximate 14,000 acres of pristine wilderness deserve our attention and the sponsorship of legislation to preserve and protect a small piece of remaining shared heritage in the beautiful land and State of Idaho.

Please join me in writing to Sens. Jim Risch and Mike Crapo and Rep. Raul Labrador, encouraging them to sponsor and support legislation to preserve Scotchman's Peak for our children and grandchildren!
