CLARK FORK — Niko Icardo and Lucas Pothoven teamed up to win twice at No. 1 boys doubles, by the scores of 6-1 and 6-4, leading the Wampus Cats against the Post Falls JV in nonleague tennis action on Tuesday.

The mixed doubles team of Jensen Heisel and Rose Levy played three Trojan teams, winning 7-5, 6-0, and 6-5 (8-6 tiebreaker) in a strong showing. The girls doubles team of Grace Shelton and Lily Simko lost three sets, and mixed doubles team Hunter Sutton and Veronica Dake also lost three sets, but gained valuable experience.

“I'm quite pleased with how the team's progressing,” said Wampus Cats head coach Jeff Emmer. “The experienced players are playing well and my new players are learning fast and have great attitudes.”

Prior to that, the Wampus Cats sent a shorthanded team down to Lewiston for a league meet. With just five first year players, some valuable match experience was had by all.

Jensen Heisel and Hunter Sutton lost 8-2 to Grangeville, defeated Timberline 9-7, then lost to Orofino 8-4 and Clearwater Valley 8-1 to round out a busy day.

The girls doubles team of Grace Shelton and Lily Simko lost to Clearwater Valley 8-3, lost to Orofino 8-4, and finally Grangeville. Veronica Dake played girls singles, losing four sets but improving a ton.

“Not many wins but a lot of great experience,” claimed Emmer of his young team.

The Wampus Cats will play at Post Falls again on Tuesday, then will face Sandpoint on Wednesday, April 20.
