Jan. 16, 2007: Commissioners Crossett, Rich and Young met with Jim Deffenbaugh of the Panhandle Area Council “… regarding space needs for Bonner County…”. June 5, 2012:

Commissioner Rich questioned why the courthouse remodeling had even begun. The minutes of the commissioners’ meetings indicate that Commissioner Rich voted “in favor” to begin the remodeling. After years of delays and rising costs, and over $5,000,000, he attempted to avoid responsibility and to fault others.

The minutes do not indicate that, in 2007, the commissioners had assigned a project manager, sought public comment, an EIS or an RFP. The minutes do indicate that the commissioners were seeking space — for themselves. The few times that citizens expressed concerns, the minutes do not indicate that the commissioners responded. The Daily Bee extensively covered the project.

A vote for Mr. Rich would ignore the lessons of the past.
