Having served on the Board of County Commissioners with Lewie Rich, I witnessed personally how untrustworthy he is. One of his most underhanded actions occurred during the 2011 bidding process for employee health insurance. At that time insurance costs were skyrocketing. Based on the best-cost proposal, a new broker and new provider were selected.

Unethically, after the bidding process had closed and contracts were signed, Rich leaked the winning proprietary bid information to the previous broker. He then called a special meeting to reopen the bidding, so the previous broker could have a second chance to make a better offer.

Since this would have completely corrupted the competitive bidding process, the other commissioner and I rejected his despicable actions and removed him as chairman.
