Dover sets comp plan workshop

| April 17, 2016 1:00 AM

DOVER — A workshop to discuss the city's comprehensive plan is planned for next week to help guide growth and shape policy decisions in Dover.

The workshop, which will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at City Hall, will review existing plans and planning practices and options, followed by discussion. The public is invited to attend.

The comprehensive plan was initially adopted in 2003 and, while many major changes have occurred in Dover since 2003, the plan is the same. This major update will document the existing conditions in Dover and trends related to growth, officials said.

The workshop will review a wide range of changed conditions in Dover since the plan's adoption, such as the development, approval, and construction in Dover Bay; the initiation of the urban renewal district; transportation plans and implementation; and the new fire, water and sewer infrastructure. The impacts of these and other changes identified will be incorporated into the new plan, officials said.

The plan process will review the community vision and all policies and objectives and recommend new and revised policies on planning for growth over the next 20 years. A suggested future land use map will be developed.

Wednesday's workshop is one small part of an effort that will run through the year. Individuals who would like to participate or learn more, are encouraged to attend the workshop. The workshop is facilitated by Idaho Smart Growth staff members Elaine Clegg and Deanna Smith. ISG is a non-profit organization that brings people together to create great places to live.

Any person requiring special accommodations to participate in the City Council meetings should contact Dover City Hall at 208-265-8339 at least 24 hours prior to the meeting.
