Claude A. “Chip, Young, 91, went home to be with God on Thursday, April 14, 2016 in Sandpoint.

Chip was born on March 25, 1925, in Douglas, Wyo., to Claude and Charlotte Young. He grew up on a ranch in Wyoming.

He graduated from Clearmont High school in Clearmont, Wyo. Upon graduation he joined the Navy where he served aboard the submarine Red Fin during World War ll.

Chip worked as a jeweler designing many beautiful pieces and as an insurance salesman. On Feb. 7, 1948, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, he married the love of his life Joyce Marie Peringer. To this marriage was born two sons, Claude A. “Chipper” Young and Forrest Craig Young.

During the children's early years they moved to Europe where Chip was employed by Civil Service AYA. They returned to the United States in 1978 where they found their “rainbow” the Conoco Travel Shoppe and Prairie Schooner Restaurant in Three Forks, Mont.

Upon retirement, they made their home in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Chip is survived by his “love,” Joyce M. Young of Sand-point; a sister, Joyce (Gene) Twiss of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and great friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both of his sons, and a brother, David Young.

He enjoyed sharing his love of skiing, snowmobiling, boating, traveling, reading, photography, watching the Olympics and old movies with his family. He loved to tell great stories of life and could always find humor in it.

In the last few years as he slowed down, the wonderful great invention of the computer was his friend but mostly his enemy. He brought a smile to those who knew this side of him, especially Brad and Bob.

Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Please make gifts of love to the Children's Cancer Research Center.

He has started a new adventure and left us behind knowing that we will join him. Rest In peace.
