Crowley, Hawkins lead Bulldog golfers in Cd'A

COEUR d'ALENE — If Monday's action was any indicator, it's going to be a tightly-contested battle at districts between the Sandpoint, Lakeland and Moscow girls, as evidenced by the tight scores at the Lake City Invitational at Coeur d'Alene Public.

Caroline Hawkins shot a 98 to lead Sandpoint, which posted a team score of 417, as the three aforementioned teams were separated by just four strokes on the day.

“It's a real horse race right now between the three schools,” said Bulldog head coach Tom Tharp, who feels the team berth to state is there for the taking. “The girls are coming around. Everybody's pretty close, it will be quite an affair at districts.”

Nina McDonnell (105) and Ali Creighton (107) also had solid rounds on the tight, tree-lined course, where driving straight is essential.

With top golfer Jack Reeves out sick and another missing with an injury, Nick Crowley carded a respectable 85 to lead a partial Bulldog boys team, followed by Lake Wilks (96) and Caelin Darling (105).

“They all improved from last week, at least we're on a downward trend,” said Tharp of the boys. “The greens are faster than we're used to.”

Tharp wished to thank the Idaho Club for letting the Bulldogs practice, noting it's starting to pay big dividends.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday at the Coeur d'Alene High School Invite.
