Distance medley relay teams shine in Pasco

PASCO, Wash. — A pair of distance medley relay teams notched tough top 10 finishes, and senior Jacob Graham posted the fastest 4A time in Idaho in the 3,200 to lead the Bulldogs at the prestigious 55th annual Pasco Invitational on Saturday, with more than 100 schools represented from Idaho, Washington and Oregon.

The Bulldogs had 14 athletes meet the qualifying standards, and a pair of relay teams set Sandpoint school records in the first event, the fairly-new distance medley relay. A distance medley relay is made up of a 1,200 meter leg (three laps on a standard 400 meter track), a 400 meter leg, an 800 meter leg, and a 1,600 meter leg in that order. The total distance run is 4,000 meters, or nearly 2.5 miles.

The boys team of Fin Lund-Andersen, Mark Kennaly, James Bradley and Jacob Graham ran a time of 10:54.42, setting a 16 second PR to finish 7th overall. The girls team of Katherine Kaul, Niah Brass, Cori McClelland and Hannah Davidson ran a time of 12:53.63, setting a 21 second PR to earn a fourth place finish and coveted podium spot.

Graham led the boys team with a 15th place finish in the 3,200, setting a new personal best and posting the fastest 4A mark in the state of Idaho to date with a strong time of 9:50.74.

Equally impressive was another personal best from sophomore Fin Lund-Andersen, who clocked a 4:29 in the 1,600 to finish 27th in a field of elite distance runners. Kennaly also capped a strong showing from the distance ranks with a 52.17 in the 400 for a 17th place finish, while Jackson Diercks (32nd in 100) and Carlos Collado (34th in discus and 38th in shot) rounded out the Bulldog boys in action.

For the girls team, Davidson continues to run strong, setting a new PR in the 400 with a 1:01.07, good for 19th place. In the 200, Claire Keener ran a 28.35 to finish 41st, Rainey Woodward ran a 2:27 to finish 18th in the 800, Kaul ran a 5:26.64 in the 1,600 to finish 26th, and McClelland finished the 3,200 in 12:26.71 for 30th place.

Brass, Woodward, Davidson and Kaul capped a busy day with a 26th place finish in the 4X400 relay.

n Bulldog track team competes at Big Red Invite

CHENEY — More than half of the Sandpoint track and field team went to the Big Red Invite in Cheney on Saturday, with more than 30 teams competing.

In the field events, Spencer Bassett had a PR of 39-7 in the triple jump to earn 6th place, Madi Schoening jumped 15-1 to earn 6th in the long jump, Cole Hooper and Lane Rasmussen tied for 6th in the pole vault with an 11-0 vault, T.J. Davis was 8th in the high jump with a 5-8 mark, while Eliane Huang was 11th for the girls by clearing 4-4. Zack Alamillo was 6th in the discus with a throw of 120-4, while Paige DuMars was 5th in the shot put with a 31-2.

In the running events, the girls 4x100m relay team of Bailee Klopman, Jaelyn Martin, Jenna Matier and Valerie Wickboldt took 2nd place with a time of 53.85. Davis was 4th in the 110 high hurdles with a PR time of 16.75, while Brooke Davis was 8th in the girls 100 hurdles with a time of 18.10. Jaelyn Martin took 8th in the 100 with a 13.66, with Madi Schoening in 10th with a 13.78. Julian Barajas led the boys 100 with a 12.63, with Tucker Hall close behind in 12.65. In the 200, Vaerie Wickboldt ran a 29.10 for 10th place.

In the 400, Sloan Woodward set a PR with a 56.65. Kyle Almeida also ran a PR of 57.93. Hyrum Hunsaker led the boys 800 with a 2:20.75, while on the girls side Kaly Scheel was 4th with a 2:33.79. Sharon Rowe was 5th in the 1,600 with a 5:57.19, with Kaly Scheel 6th in 5:57.51. Cole Dillon led the boys 1,600 in 5:19.10. In the 3,200, Clay Rasmussen was 13th in 11:09.10, and Sloan Woodward was 18th with an 11:21.40.

The Bulldogs continue a busy schedule by competing at the Lakeland Relays today and the Christina Finney meet in Post Falls on Friday.
