Region's Musical venues shine with stellar lineups

SANDPOINT — What a week we have lined up for you this time around! Looking ahead, there are two dance events on Saturday night, a great POAC concert next Wednesday at the Panida and another slate of live theater to be enjoyed in the region.

Local music venues have outdone themselves, with a lineup of everything from rockabilly and swing to Americana and straight-ahead country. And did we mention open mic night tonight and symphony music just over the border in Spokane?

Thursday, April 21

Open Mic Night at

Venue: Monarch Mountain Coffee, 208 N. Fourth Ave.

Time: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 21

Hosted by talented local songwriter Patrice Webb, this open mic gathering is your chance to share your talent (and hard work) with a supportive and interested audience. Amateurs and newcomers welcome!

‘Full Draw Film Festival’

‘Private Eyes’

Venue: NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center, 1000 W. Garden Ave., Coeur d’Alene.

Time: 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 21

‘Private Eyes’ is a comedy of suspicion in which nothing is ever quite what it seems. The audience itself plays the role of detective in this hilarious and moving relationship thriller.

Spokane Symphony: ‘Carmina Burana’

Venue: Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave., in Spokane.

Time: 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 21

Music Director Eckart Preu will conduct the Spokane Symphony performing Carl Orff’s powerful and always popular ‘Carmina Burana’ with soloists, the Spokane Symphony Chorale, the Spokane Area Youth Choirs and The Whitworth Choir.

Friday, April 22

Ladies Late Night at Bonner County History Museum

Venue: Bonner County History Museum, 611 S. Ella Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-8 p.m., Friday, April 22

Grab your girlfriends and join us for an evening of fashion, food, cocktails and fun! Be one of the first people to see the new exhibits: Tales from the Wardrobe: Fashion in Bonner County, 1940-1959; and History in the Making: District 410. Check in with local hat expert, Mary Faux, who will entertain you with the history of hats and help you find the perfect head topper, then tap into your creative side and make your very own hat.

Too Tipsy & The Hangovers

The Other White Meat

The Other White Meat is a classic rock and roll band from North Idaho that’s been around since the early 1990’s opening for such acts as G. Thorogood, Styx, REO Speedwagon, The Doobie Bros, Ted Nugent, Rail, and Cracker. Featuring Kyle Swaffard on vocals, bass, and kazoo, Benny Baker on vocals and guitars, Dana Peite on drums and percussion.

‘Love Thy Nature’

Saturday, April 23

‘Dancing in the Rain’

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave.

Time: 7-10 p.m., Saturday

Celebrate the fun tradition of social dancing in Sandpoint. A fox trot lesson will be taught by a local professional instructor from 7-8 p.m., followed by general dancing, refreshments, door prizes, mixers, and a drawing for a month of free dance classes. Singles and couples welcome.

Admission: $9 adults, $6 for USA Dance members and $5 teens. USA Dance events are alcohol and tobacco free.

Dance Marathon

Venue: Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. Boyer Ave.

Time: Check-in 2 p.m.; dance competition from 3-9 p.m.; dinner from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23

Help out Sandpoint Area Seniors and have a great time in their largest fundraiser of the year! Costumes are optional, but the music will span the Roaring ‘20s to the present, just in case. Along with the dancing, there will be entertainment, a casino, silent auction and lots of prizes.

Admission: $20 with dinner, $10 without dinner, $10 youth under 12, available at the event.

DakhaBrakha is a world music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine. Reflecting fundamental elements of sound and soul, Ukrainian this ‘ethnic chaos, band creates a world of unexpected new music.
