Rockwell, Curtiss help Bulldogs rout Hawks

RATHDRUM — Showing the quality depth of the program, Sandpoint routed Lakeland 11-1 on Wednesday in 4A Inland Empire League tennis action at Lakeland High School.

For just the second time all season, the Bulldogs were at full strength, and many of the matches were decisive. Bulldog head coach Kent Anderson feels Patrick Rockwell and Matthew Curtiss paired well for the first time in doubles.

“They’re fast, athletic and intimidating,” praised Anderson. “They’ll definitely be a strong possibility for our district team.”

Another new combo was the No. 1 mixed doubles team of Michael Favor and Allura Livingston, who never dropped a game.

“These two have speed, agility and the ability to run down any ball hit at them,” described Anderson. “This is another combo that could end up as a district powerhouse.”

Koen Connor mixed quickness and steady shot selection to win at No. 3 boys singles. The Bulldogs might be the deepest tennis team in North Idaho, and they’re playing with confidence as districts looms.

“The entire team played at a high level. It’s a little intimidating for the opposition when the Bulldogs go out for their warm-ups and rarely miss a shot,” said Anderson. “I expect them all to raise their level even more before districts. This is a fun team to watch.”

Sandpoint is at Lewiston on Monday in a dual pitting arguably the top two programs in North Idaho.
