Museum's 'Late Nights' set to heat up summer

SANDPOINT — The Bonner County History Museum is excited to announce the summer 2016 “Late Nights at the Museum” schedule.

“Late Nights at the Museum” is a unique event series in which one Friday each month the museum stays open late and offers a variety of sensory experiences for visitors with performances, concerts, readings, film screenings, tours, talks, family programs, crafts, food and beverage and so much more. The summer will kick off on Friday, May 13 at 5 pm with a “1950s Movie Night.” The evening will include the chance to stroll through the exhibits while enjoying cocktails and snacks of the ’50s. At 6:30 p.m., a screening of the 1956 classic science fiction thriller “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” will start. Seating is limited so arrive on time. Admission for this event will be $10 for the public, $5 for museum members.

On June 24, at 5 p.m., the museum will host “Trivia Night.” Guests will have one hour to absorb as much information as possible by wandering the museum before competing in teams of four to six people for the title of “best local historians.” There will also be drinks, snacks, and a great prize. Admission is $10 for the public, $5 for museum members.

On July 22, the museum will host its first “Cinema in the Park.” With the generous support of Parks and Recreation, the museum will screen the classic movie, “The Princess Bride” under the stars in Lakeview Park. VIP tickets, which include complimentary food and drink, are available for $10 for the public and $5 for members. General admission will be $2. Concessions will be available. The movie will start at 8:30 p.m. Enhance your experience by packing a picnic and arriving early to claim your spot.

Finally, on Aug. 26, the museum will partner with Infini Gallery to host a unique paint and sip. Starting at 5 p.m., local artists will guide guests to create their own individual piece of art, which will become part of the next installment of the museum’s “History in the Making” exhibit series. This is event will be $40 for the public and $30 for all members, this cost includes painting supplies, food and drinks. This event does require reservations, which can be made at 208-263-2344; no sign-ups will be permitted at the event.

“Late Night at the Museum” events are discounted for members, and free for “social butterfly” members, so contact the museum today to join. The social butterfly is an individual membership which includes all of perks of membership, like free admission, reciprocal memberships and perks at local businesses, as well as free admission to the Late Night events. If you’re interested in getting some culture while enjoying the company of others who enjoy history, this might be the membership for you. The Social Butterfly membership is $50 annually, and can be purchased online on our website or by coming into the museum.

Founded in 1972, the Bonner County History Museum has been collecting and preserving the Bonner County region’s significant stories for over 40 years. The museum is located in view of Lake Pend Oreille in beautiful Lakeview Park. The park has many amenities including picnic areas, a playground, tennis courts, and the Native Plant Society arboretum. Adjacent to Lakeview Park is Memorial Field which has a boat launch and is home to the Festival at Sandpoint every August.
