April 28, 1966 — GOLF TEAM COMPETES

Sandpoint High School’s golf team opened their season last Saturday at Wallace, placing last in a five-way match with the host Miners, Kellogg, Academy of Coeur d’Alene and Coeur d’Alene High School in the order of their finish.

Low scorer for the Bulldogs was Jim Nieman with a 98. Larry Verdal who made the trip but did not compete because of an injured knee, played around the course anyway and shot 85 which did not count on the team score. Other members of the squad are Bob Applegate, Steve Sodorff and Dick Wild.

The golf team, in their second year of competition, is coached by high school principal Richard Sordorff.

“Moonlight madness” hit Sandpoint Friday evening with bargains for customers, strange sights for anyone, the pleasant rustle and clink of cash for merchants and fun for all concerned.

April 28, 1916 — DEVELOPS NEW POTATO

Herman Zastrow has developed a new potato he thinks will be very popular in this climate and calls it the Number Nine. It is very white, smooth, the eyes hardly noticeable and uniformly large, weighing up to 81 pounds a bushel. The vines are small but each hill yields many potatoes.

SHAKESPEAREAN ANNIVERSARY

April 23 marked 300 years since the death of William Shakespeare, and celebrations are under way at great centers of learning the world over.

Don C.D. Moore of this city has an interesting memento in the form of a photograph fac-simile of the page of the baptismal register from the Stratford church, upon which is entered in old English script the record of the baptism of the infant William on April 26, 1564.

COOKING BY WIRE

In conjunction with the demonstration of electric cooking carried out at Bruce’s grocery, a thorough canvas of the city was made by salesmen of the General Electric company, resulting in the sale of more than 200 electric appliances.
