Lil' Smokies to play KRFY benefit show

| April 28, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — On Friday, May 6, KRFY is pleased to host an evening of bluegrass with The Lil’ Smokies, the 2015 winners of the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Festival band contest. The Lil’ Smokies will have audience members, young and old, on their feet at the Panida theater with music that will stay with them long after they leave.

The band is known for their vibrantly sonic musical stew of traditional bluegrass and newgrass. The group weaves seasoned musical chops with raw energy that will both inspire and move the heart and mind, playing both originals and covers. This not-to-be-missed concert is a fundraiser to keep your north Idaho community radio station, 88.5 KRFY alive and thriving.

“The Lil’ Smokies music really speaks to the diversity and mix of age groups found in our community and we strive to represent that voice on the air,” said station manager, Suzy Prez. “At KRFY, we have to make things work on a limited budget and this concert brings in a large part of our revenue, so it’s important to us that it appeals to a lot of people.”

The five multi-instrumental musicians, based in Missoula, Montana, are on their spring tour from Seattle to Chicago, sharing the stage with other musicians such as Bela Fleck and the Shook Twins. Their Sandpoint performance will open with well-known local musicians Doug Bond and Terry Ludiker.

Doors will open at 6:30 and the performance will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, available at Pedro’s, Evans Brothers Coffee, Eichardt’s, and KRFY at 208-265-2992, or online at: www.panida.org
