Mind-blowing options pack week's entertainment
SANDPOINT — Wrapping up April, rolling into May and busy as usual on the cultural scene around these parts. Tonight, be sure to take in the Beethoven-centric concert by young musicians from the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint. Friday, it’s an anniversary party at Eichardt’s and, on Saturday, a mind-blowing quilt exhibit all day at the Bernd Building downtown and films at both the Panida and the Panida Little Theater throughout the weekend.
Plus, a host of live music venues to round things out.
Thursday, April 28
Music Conservatory of Sandpoint Children Performing for Children Concert

A very special evening performance by the Community Programs Orchestra & Choir, sponsored in part by the Idaho Community Foundation. Many of the children in this orchestra and choir have only been playing music for the last eight months. Come and be amazed at what can be accomplished by a group of inspired children in such a short time! The concert is an exploration of music by Beethoven.

‘All Things Great and Small’

Directed by NIC Music Instructor Gerard Mathes, this free concert will feature classics performed by the NIC Cardinal Chamber Orchestra.
Some of the pieces will include ‘The Entertainer,’ by Scott Joplin; ‘Quartet in G Minor,’ by Claude Debussy; ‘Romanian Folk Dances,’ by Bela Bartok; ‘Fugue in F Minor,’ and ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’ by W.A. Mozart; ‘Prayer of St. Gregory,’ by Alan Hoyhaness, and ‘Summer,’ by Antonio Vivaldi, among others.

Bosom Buddies Quilt Exhibit
Venue: Bernd Building (former location of Coldwater Creek retail store) at 311 N. First Street, Sandpoint.
Time: 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. — Saturday, April 30
Over the last 16 years the Bosom Buddies group has provided many dozens of quilts to breast cancer patients. Two years ago, they expanded their gifting to include other areas; for example, other devastating medical diseases or Habitat for Humanity homes. They accept requests from any deserving cause. This exhibit is a showcase of the talents of its members and is expected to contain about 100 quilts and will include traditional to modern abstract pieces that show the transition that has occurred in fabric arts and quilting industry.
There will be a raffle of two quilts made by the members. Tickets will be sold throughout the day. The winning tickets will be drawn at 5:00 p.m. Winners do not need to be present.
The group was formed in 2000 by two breast cancer survivors, Linda Aavedal and Verna Mae Davis, with the purpose of giving comfort quilts to local patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments. It began with four ladies and currently has about 25 who meet monthly to make more quilts.
