I believe I’ve asked this question in the past, but didn’t receive an answer so here goes again.
I used to enter an exhibit in the fair and would win a blue ribbon for my dill pickles most years. This was when the fair was in late August, the earliest a fair should start. In more recent years, and especially this year with the even simulcast with the Festival, Aug. 9-13, I and most people wanting to enter canning and produce either can’t or will enter half ripe items. So I will not enter. Pretty soon the fair will migrate to late July or something.
It seems that the fair is just a framework anymore for a rodeo and 4-H to fit their time schedule not everyone else’s. Also, the temporary $3 parking fee to fix the roof has become permanent making the fair non-free. I know this as a co-worker a few years ago parked in the Mormon lot and walk over and was still charged the “parking” fee.
