Highway 2 work is set to begin

| August 9, 2016 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Work will begin Aug. 15 to re-configure a short section of U.S. 2 in Sandpoint, turning the current one-way road segment into a two-way segment, and also updating traffic signals in that area. The project is expected to finish by mid-November.

Work on the Fifth Avenue project, from Pine Street to Cedar Street (milepost 28.5 – 28.7), will initially involve reassembling the corners of the intersections in that stretch, followed by demolition of the sign bridge just south of Cedar Street Aug. 18.

The work will increase traffic flow and mobility in that area, which improves the movement of goods and services through Sandpoint.

Impacts to traffic should be minimal, but motorists can expect short delays during demolition of the sign bridge.

Earthworks Northwest of Sandpoint is the contractor on this $2.1 million project.
