In the Aug. 11 Daily Bee, a letter to the editor declared that “patrons of the Lake Pend Oreille School District will have an opportunity to pass …” I am not sure what the writer means by “patron.” The Merriam Webster definition is, “a person who gives money and support to an artist, organization, etc.” Property owners become “patrons” willingly or not by passage of this levy.

This $55 million LPOSD levy will be a spending spree funded by property owners as this is attached to their property tax bill. This levy will double the amount of school district taxes on your property tax for the next six years. And … wait … another LPOSD multi-million dollar levy will most likely be on the ballot next March.

Many of us understand the need for a new middle school. I also understand the need for upgrades to the Lake Pend Oreille Alternative High School which is not covered in this $55 million levy.

Please send the LPOSD trustees back to the drawing board to return with a reasonable request by voting “against” in the special election to be held on Aug. 30.
