Fresh from getting a $16 million supplemental levy approved in March 2015, Lake Pend Oreille School District thought it was time to get the ball rolling for a $55 million plant facilities levy.
The $16 million levy was a record high for the district. It will, by the way, come up for renewal six months from now. Meanwhile, on Aug. 30, you will be asked to vote for this astronomically high $55 million levy that will double your school taxes for the next six years. LPOSD believes you won’t mind. As their pro-levy signs around town tell you, just “ vote yes for schools .” No mention of the amount .
This levy can only be described as reckless. You are to pay for three brand new buildings, more athletic fields, major remodels and numerous other projects. To be completed all at once and immediately.
Tackling one building at a time would be acceptable. This is not.
