Vacancies on P&Z panel
SANDPOINT — Bonner County is seek letters of interest from people who would like to serve on the county’s planning and zoning commission.
The deadline to submit letters to the Bonner County Planning Department no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2.
County commissioners ultimately make the decision on P&Z appointments.
One seat was vacated earlier this year by former Chairman Steve Temple, who resigned in protest of the county commission’s unilateral amendments to the local land use code.
Terms for seats held by Don Davis, Margaret Hall and Mitch Martin — who represent districts 1, 2 and 3, respectively — are set to expire, according to Planning Director Milton Ollerton.
Residents who have lived in Bonner County for at least two years and plan to remain living here until their terms expire can apply for appointment. Members on the nonpartisan commission may receive compensation for mileage and per diem compensation. Members can serve two terms and can seek addition terms with a two-thirds vote of the county commission.
The planning commission reviews and hears land use proposals which range from simple to complex. It requires reading and understanding of local codes and state laws.
The commission also reviews and updates the county’s comprehensive land use plan, conducts public hearings and provides a venue for the general public to participate in local land use planning.
The panel holds two meetings per month, one of which is a public hearing and the other is a planning workshop. The 5:30 p.m. meetings are typically held on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Bonner County Administration Building.
Those interested in a P&Z appointment should direct letters to the Bonner County Planning Department, 1500 U.S. Highway 2, Suite 208, Sandpoint, ID. 83864. For additional information, contact Ollerton at 208-265-1458.
