As a former educator, I oppose the $55 million school levy on which the public will vote yes or no on Aug. 30. I have taught grades four through 12 in California, in Bonner County, and then for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in England and Germany. I’ve seen a lot of variety in school buildings. A good teacher could teach in a barn. My husband, Dr. Donald Tucker, went to Center Valley School when there was one teacher for all of the eight grades and the children got a good education.
I know times have changed, unfortunately, but our school board needs to concentrate on maintaining our school buildings and offering a higher pay scale for teachers in order to attract the best so they can afford to live and work in one of the most beautiful and best places in the world.
Please join me in voting no on Aug. 30
