Steven Hoffman’s letter almost got me. I was fired up and ready to blast his argument when I realized it had to be satire. Darn good job, Mr. Hoffman. However, as I wrote a few weeks back, the deal is already done. The feds have already prepped the ground to overrule all local city and county zoning and land use ordinances. I was shocked that not one reader bothered to comment. Please do go to the public meetings about the proposed changes, just don’t be surprised when you are ignored and when a federal judge imposes a completely different set of “approved” standards and restrictions. See Idaho’s Federal Affordable Housing and Community Development program where “it planned to remove or ameliorate the negative effects of public (read state and local) policies that serve as barriers to affordable housing such as land use controls, tax policies affecting land, zoning ordinances, building codes, fees and charges, growth limitations, and policies affecting the return on residential investment.”
