Dec. 4, 1966 — JURY CLEARS PARSLEY

State Senator Merle Parsley, D-Sandpoint, appeared in Justice of the Peace Andrew Callahan’s court Nov. 22 and was acquitted of a charge of battery brought by Ronald Rankin of Coeur d’Alene. A six-man jury deliberated but 10 minutes after hearing conflicting versions of who struck the first blow in an altercation at the state Democratic convention in Coeur d’Alene June 11.

Supporting testimony for Parsley was given by State Sen. Cecil D. Andrus, D-Orofino, and State Rep. Ed Williams, D-Lewiston

FINDER KNEW HOW IT WAS

A billfold containing $40 in currency was brought to the police station Nov. 22 by Sharon Shadel, Sandpoint, who said she found the billfold in the vicinity of Furniture Exchange on Cedar Street. The only identification to be found in the billfold was a social security card bearing the name of Linda Fankhouser.

Miss Shadel, who works at Connie’s Café, said she had lost her own billfold a couple of months ago, but unfortunately it has never been recovered.

Linda Fankhouser called at the police station Nov. 23, identified the billfold and claimed it.

The new proprietors completely renovated the building and added much new equipment, making it a clean, up-to-date cafe. It is intended to serve only short orders and make the place a popular price cafe.

STOPS FENCING GANG

Sunday as a Great Northern fencing gang was setting posts 100 feet each side of their tracks on the right of way between here and Dover they were stopped by Peter Pearson, on whose land they were working. It seems that this matter has been in dispute for some time and every so often the Great Northern attempts to broaden its strip of property by shoving back the fences. Pearson stated he has been paying taxes on the land for 18 years and he does not propose to give the G.N. more than its 50-ft. strip each side of the tracks until they show him a deed to the property.

CHRISTMAS TAG DAY SUCCESSFUL

The Municipal club, which is handling the details for the promotion of a municipal Christmas tree in Sandpoint, held a tag day yesterday and realized another big advance in funds. The people of the city met the approaches of the “tagging” misses in fine style and hardly a person passed up the opportunity to contribute to a good cause. The tags were offered for 10 cents, but on many occasions larger amounts were donated.
