“Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of the season, and in the constant stream of media attention on the other aspects of Christmas, people can get distracted from what this holiday is really all about. Thirteen years ago, Cabinet Mountain Calvary Chapel in Clark Fork decided that they were going to help people remember the one thing about Christmas that matters the most.
Every year during the first part of December, the church hosts a community tree lighting and Christmas celebration for the communities of the Clark Fork River Valley. The event begins on the front lawn of the Clark Fork Jr./Sr. High School with the lighting of a tree, and the singing of traditional Christmas carols. Then the festivities move inside for more carols, a Christmas story for the children, and a presentation by Calvary’s drama ministry. Add some coffee, cocoa, and Christmas goodies, and it’s an event that has always been enjoyed by everyone.
This year’s celebration of the birth of Jesus will take place this Saturday, December 10th, starting outside the school at 6 p.m. There is no admission, and donations will not be accepted. This presentation is a Christmas gift to the community.
