Clark Fork 7th grader Ethan Cassidy emerges from the “Wampy” mask, as he entertained crowds at a recent home basketball doubleheader. The Wampus Cat, a mountain snow leopard equipped with the famous spiked ball on the tail, is one of the best mascots in the U.S., let alone Idaho. Unlike the far more common Tigers, Wildcats, Bulldogs or Eagles, the Wampus Cat is used by only six high schools in the U.S., including others in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Massachu-setts.
