DEMERS MARRIED 60 YEARS
The date was Oct. 30, 1906. The place was Onamia, Minn. And the people were Miss Ethel M. Franklin and John DeMers.
Sandpoint has played an important part in their long married life. They came here in 1923. Mr. DeMers built their home at 1006 Poplar in 1941 and they have resided there since.
Mrs. DeMers reminisced that her mother came over from Norway for the wedding, the trip taking seven weeks on a sailing vessel. His father came from Canada and his mother from Paris, France.
They had 8 children, 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Most of their family was present for the celebration. Those who live in Sandpoint are Tom DeMers and family, Jim DeMers and his wife and Faye South.
There was a difference of opinion when this reporter asked how they first met. She said she was doing baby-sitting. He said it was at a Sunday School gathering and he took one look and said, “That’s the one for me!”

MUNICIPAL BALL A SUCCESS
The dance at the Rink opera house last Friday for the benefit of the municipal Christmas tree was a pronounced success, proceeds amounting to something over 80 dollars. A quite delightful variation was given the program when the house lights went out, following the breaking of high tension wires between Post Falls and Newport, which carry the current used in Sandpoint. Much of the evening was spent in semi-darkness broken by the glimmer of a few lanterns and lamps hung about the hall. The current was restored about midnight and the closing numbers were danced in the Rink’s brilliant lighting.
