Gift infused Monday with Christmas magic

I found a candy cane the other night. It was wrapped in plastic and hanging from the handle of my car’s front door. I’d parked outside my workplace some 11 hours earlier. By the dome light of my Honda, I examined the gift more closely. Seven inches long and with stripes of red and green and yellow, it bore no tag.

I’m not overstating my delight when I say that my cold dark Monday night was unexpectedly infused with Christmas magic. I laughed aloud as I wondered who had left the candy cane for me. A coworker? A friend? A stranger?

Today ,I can’t decide whether to go ahead and eat the candy cane or whether to simply smile at it a little while longer. But hey, if you happen to see my Christmas Elf around town, please pass along a happy “ho, ho, ho!” from me.
