An article in the Daily Bee on Dec. 10, 2016, indicated that the state of Idaho is on track to see a $139 million funding surplus in 2016.

I urge all Idaho citizens to contact their state legislators and request this surplus be applied toward school funding. The Lake Pend Oreille School District has a $55 million building shortfall that, to my knowledge, has not been addressed and they are set to have another $8 million supplemental levy vote in March.

I find it interesting that with all the attention I’ve brought lately to the legislators raiding the lottery funds, not one legislator, not even our local legislators, have come forward and publicly addressed this issue. I guess they think if they just ignore it, it will go away. Thanks, legislators, for your interest in addressing the concerns of the people who elected you.
