I’m writing to express my support for the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness Act. I agree with Sen. James Risch that “this legislation would allow future generations of Idahoans to enjoy Scotchman Peaks.” I have a large interest in future generations as my husband and I are currently expecting our first child.
We moved to North Idaho for the quality of life and I now work for Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness to help protect it. We want our daughter to grow up surrounded by nature; to know how it sounds, smells, looks and feels without interference from humans. No cars, engines or exhaust. Just the rustling of leaves, chirping of birds and the sound of our steps in the clean mountain air.
Based on the broad support the proposal has, we are not the only ones who feel that way. As staff of FSPW, I get to interact with our diverse supporters. FSPW’s Friends include a wide range of people ranging from stereotypical Wilderness advocates to mountain bikers and folks from the timber industry. We may all come from different walks of life, but we all agree on one thing: the Scotchman Peaks should be designated as wilderness.
With our bundle of joy due almost any minute, we are looking forward to bringing another lover of nature into the world and want to thank Sen. Risch for helping to preserve a small portion of Bonner County to nurture that love.
