Selkirk tops Clark Fork

IONE, Wash. — Brooke Stevens led Clark Fork with 12 points and eight boards, but Selkirk was simply too tough, winning 40-22 on Wednesday night in nonleague girls basketball at Selkirk High School.

Lily Simko led the Wampus Cats (1-8) in rebounding for the third straight game with eight, and Nona Young chipped in four points in defeat. The Wampus Cats played up in class for the fifth time this season, and head coach Mark Stevens felt his team played great defense in the loss.

“We played a really good team,” admitted Stevens. “I was happy with the girls. They played really tough.”

The Wampus Cats are off until Jan. 7, when they travel south to face undefeated North Star League foe Genesis Prep and their 6-foot-4 sophomore center Bella Murekatete, who tallied 18 points, 31 rebounds and seven blocked shots in her last game alone.

No report was received from the Wampus Cat boys game.
