James Val Kidd, 82
James Val Kidd, 82, passed away on Dec. 20, 2016, in American Fork Utah, from causes incident to age.
Val was born to James Andrew Hobson Kidd and Elgy Ora Whittle Kidd on June 12, 1934, in Farmington, Utah. He attended school in Stockton, Calif., where he met, grew up with, and married his “honey,” Norma Marie Atkinson. Val and Norma were married on Oct. 6, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS temple.
They were the parents of three children, Mike (Meri) Kidd, Valerie (Jim) Banks, and Cindy (J.Ward) Moody.
Val started out in the grocery business with his brother Mardee when they founded Mar-Val Food Stores in Lodi, California. He later left the business to become a thoroughbred horse trainer, a career that he loved dearly. In 1974, Val moved with his family to Sandpoint, Idaho, where he lived until 2006 when he moved to American Fork, Utah to be near his daughter Cindy and her family.
He loved the outdoors and loved to take spontaneous drives with Norma just to see where the road would take them. Val was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a bishop and member of a stake presidency.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy; 12 grandchildren; 26 great- grandchildren, and his sister, Marcella Poulton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; his son, Mike; his daughter, Valerie; his parents Hobson and Elgy; and his brother, Mardee.
A special thank you to the staff at ‘Hearts for Hospice’ and the ‘Charleston Assisted Living Center’ for the kind and considerate care they have given Val for the last 2 years.
