HOSPITAL INTERIOR BEING PAINTED

A new coat of paint is giving the interior of Bonner General Hospital a fresh new appearance. Dennis Hamann, in charge of maintenance at the hospital, says the work has progressed smoothly despite the fact that the hospital continues to be busy.

Surgery has already been refinished in enamel, and the washrooms and emergency section will also be refinished in enamel.

Hamann said that plans call for painting the outside of the building next summer.

Dec. 29, 1916 –TREE IS A SUCCESS

Sandpoint’s first municipal Christmas tree was in the greatest degree successful. In spite of the bitter cold of late Christmas day an immense attendance witnessed the ceremonies.

The children gathered at the Farmin school, then, led by Rev. Livingston, marched to the tree at the foot of Church street. Voices were raised in Christmas carols, prayer was offered by Rev. Cook of the Baptist church, and Rev. McCaughey of the Methodist church, garbed in the costume of one of the three wise men, told the beautiful story of the first Christmas. Santa Claus drove his sleigh up to the tree mid a jingle of Christmas bells and passed out to the little ones over 1000 sacks of candy and nuts, apples and oranges.

CHRISTMAS AT THE CHURCHES

Methodist — All Christmas services were largely attended, notwithstanding the cold weather. The pastor spoke on “The Wonderful Name” Sunday morning and special music was given by the choir assisted by Mr. Winfield Henderson and Stanton McLaughlin. After the evening service, sacks of candy were distributed, with no child overlooked.

Catholic — The Catholic choir, directed by Mrs. Sarah K. Patterson, gave a masterly rendition of Leonard’s “Third Mass” Christmas morning. Solos were sung by Mrs. D. Vaillaincourt, Monica Chisholm, Art Anderson, Stanton McLaughlin and Howard Patterson. Marie Vaillaincourt was the organist. The service, conducted by Rev. Father Kelly, was largely attended.
