No-call hurts Sandpoint boys in loss to Lakeside
SPOKANE — A tough no-call at the end of the game went against the Bulldogs, who saw a fourth quarter comeback fall short in a 62-61 loss to Lakeside on the second day of the Eagle Holiday Classic on Wednesday at West Valley High School.
Robbie Johnson scored a team-high 15 points, one of four Bulldogs (2-7) in double figures, and Sandpoint head coach Kent Leiss felt his put back with two seconds left should have been whistled for an and-one, and chance to tie the game.
“Down three with 15 seconds, we run a great play for a three. (Spencer) Thompson misses, Robbie boards it, goes up and scores with two seconds and just gets hammered,” described Leiss. “No call. We lose 62-61.”
Spencer Thompson and Alex Stockton each scored 12 and Taran McLaughlin added 11, as the Bulldogs were plagued by a slow start offensively, digging an early 18-5 hole. After that, they outscored Lakeside by 12 in the final three quarters.
Tristan Cox scored 17 points to lead Lakeside (4-4).
The Bulldogs face Deer Park in the final game of the three-day tourney, with tipoff today at 1:30 p.m. at West Valley.
