SANDPOINT — Many parents prefer to have a hands-on approach to their child's education but may not always have the knowledge or skills needed for a well-rounded and full educational experience. The Lake Pend Oreille School District has come up with a program that may help with that homeschool need.

The Lake Pend Oreille Home School Academy is an idea the school district is tossing around to help parents with homeschooling. It would offer a hands-on education at least one day per week. Examples of academies to choose from could include an outdoor education program, an academy of the arts, classical education and a STEM academy. Superintendent Shawn Woodward said these are just a few of the ideas for classes.

"It may or may not come to fruition," Woodward said of the Home School Academy. "It all depends on if homeschool families, or other families, would like to sign up."
