SANDPOINT — Kate McAlister announced on Wednesday that she is running the House of Representative’s District 1A seat.

McAlister, the president and CEO of the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce, describes herself as a 22-year Sandpoint resident who is a mother, grandmother and community leader.

McAlister is running as a Democrat in her bid to dislodge incumbent Rep. Heather Scott, a Republican from Blanchard.

“I believe we need new leadership to bring balance to our political process and to give every Idahoan an opportunity to create a positive future for themselves and their families,” McAlister said in a statement.
