Wampus Cats' season ends in loss to Jaguars

KELLOGG — The defensive effort was there, but the Wampus Cats struggled on the other end of the court, ending their season with a 44-22 loss to Genesis Prep in a loser-out game of the 1A Division II tournament Thursday night at Kellogg High School.

Tessa Sutton posted eight points and 10 rebounds, Leslie Kiebert five points and nine rebounds and Brooke Stevens seven points, but offense was simply tough to come by for the Wampus Cats (6-12).

“That was the biggest thing, we just missed a lot of shots,” said Cats head coach Mark Stevens. “Defensively, I thought we played them pretty tough, but we weren’t hitting shots tonight.”

6-foot-4 freshman Bella Murekatete scored 20 points to lead the Jaguars.

The future is bright for the Clark Fork girls program, which loses just one senior and saw two freshman make immediate varsity impacts this year in Sutton and Stevens.
