Defense leads Bulldogs to win in playoff opener

COEUR d’ALENE — Following a stellar defensive effort Monday night, the Sandpoint Bulldogs are now one win away from a trip to the state tournament.

Sandpoint held Moscow to 23.2 percent (13 for 56) shooting and suffocated the Bears 57-31 in the semifinal game of the 4A Region 1 boys basketball tournament at North Idaho College’s Rolly Williams Court.

“We’ve been getting better our last three or four games,” Sandpoint coach Kent Leiss said. “Our defense keeps getting better. I know that Moscow shot a pretty low percentage, and I’m not sure how much we were responsible for that, but I thought we played very good defense.
