Stevens, Jeffres lead Cats in district opener
CLARK FORK — With their season hanging in the balance, No. 4 seed Clark Fork erased a fourth quarter deficit and ground out a 52-48 win over No. 5 Mullan in a loser-out game of the 1A Division II boys basketball tournament on Monday night at Clark Fork High School.
Sophomore Wade Stevens was a catalyst all night for the Wampus Cats (3-17), tallying 10 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals in a strong all-around effort, setting the tone for the offense.
“Wade had a hell of a ball game,” said Cats head coach George Thornton, whose team was missing a pair of key seniors. “James Cope had a concussion and Dylan Roper couldn’t play due to district rules, since he attends Elk Mountain Academy. They let him play all year, then said he couldn’t play at districts, which makes no sense.”
