SANDPOINT — District 1 Rep. Heather Scott is cosponsoring legislation that would make it a constitutional right in Idaho to carry a concealed weapon.

Scott, R-Blanchard, and District 34 Rep. Ronald Nate, R-Rexburg, announced plans this week to introduce the bill in the opening weeks of the legislative session in Boise.

If enacted, Idaho would be the ninth state in the country which allows constitutional carry.

“It’s like we’re following in constitutional gun laws. That’s where I think we need to be a leader,” Scott said on Wednesday.

A similar bill was proposed in the House of Representatives last year, but it didn’t make it out of committee.
